Be More Do More
Miguel Illidge
Miami, FL
Former Occupation: Real Estate
Steady success typically takes years for entrepreneurs to achieve, but Miguel Illidge, of Miami, FL, is a different story. The young Hispanic American became a rising star early on in Primerica because of his relentless work ethic. “Primerica has shown me that we can all be better,” Miguel says. “We can always be more, and we can all do more. This Company is a financial lifeline for people and it’s a privilege to be part of the process.”1
As a self-described “self-improvement fanatic,” Miguel says it’s a nickname most people who know him would agree with, and he attributes his early success in Primerica to it. “Everything changed for me once I started to work on myself and surround myself with the right people. Instead of going out and staying up late, I focused on learning from Primerica leaders, setting appointments, reading more self-improvement books, and avoiding negativity.” Miguel was working as a fast-food cashier when he first heard about Primerica, but he initially didn’t see the big picture. “At first, I just wanted to get life licensed, since the goal was to work with my sister,” he explains.2 After dabbling in real estate for about a year, he returned to Primerica with a renewed passion.”
Immediately after I cancelled my real estate license, I started studying for the Series 6 securities exam for eight straight days leading up to the test.”3 Miguel successfully passed on his first attempt. What appealed to him the most about Primerica was the flexibility and family-oriented environment. He found a second home within Willy and Lorena Naranjo’s team, where he ambitiously learned the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. “I look up to them so much, especially Willy, and the more time I spent with him, the more I adopted his mindset. I didn’t really believe in myself before, but once I started making changes under his guidance, it helped me believe that I was capable of more.” Part of “more” for Miguel meant living a life where families can work and spend time together, and he saw the potential for it in Primerica. “The life Willy and Lorena had was drastically different from everyone I knew including my sister, who worked at a different investment firm at the time. I love how we all work together as one big family. Regardless of who succeeds, we’re genuinely happy for each other. We share the office together, we train together, we even travel together every year for vacation!”
Miguel understands how daunting financial decision making can be, which is why he approaches financial education from the perspective of an average person when he meets with people.4 He explains how a personalized experience can be a game changer. “Whatever advice I give is the same advice I follow. It’s important to try to be the hope people want to have. I will always be here for our clients and take care of them, and we know they appreciate that stability. People just need someone who has answers, and they want to interact with a human, not a machine.” He continues, “When you see people change their life firsthand, you see them become a completely different person. They’re so grateful for our help! How can you not be moved by that? The greatest impact we have is when we can help hundreds of clients.”
Since joining Primerica in 2013, he understands how unique it is to be in a position where you feel fulfilled personally and professionally. “We have access to the top leaders and executives in this Company who treat us all like a friend. Primerica is really in tune with taking care of their clients and Representatives, which helps motivate us to do the right thing for people. There’s no other place like it.” To say that Primerica has changed the trajectory of Miguel’s life as well as his family’s life would be an understatement. He’s been able to retire his father, who now lives in Colombia, and his sister works with him in the business.5 “I used to be the one who would wait on other family members to make decisions for me but now I’m the go-to person for our extended family. I’m also a father of a new baby girl named Lucía. Fatherhood has been incredible, and it means a lot that I can provide for my family by helping people make better financial decisions. Primerica gave me the opportunity to build a strong foundation and leave a legacy. My daughter will get to grow up as a ‘Primerica kid’ and hopefully be part of the next generation of leaders.”
