A Commitment to Continue a Legacy

Former Occupation: Student
Brandon & Marisha Reed, of Grand Prairie, TX, weren’t looking for Primerica before 2009 but they’re forever grateful they found it at the right time. The high school sweethearts credit the business for teaching them everything they know about finance and personal development. “Back then, I was a college student working at a big box retailer but not making much money,” recalls Brandon. “I had expectations for myself and knew I wanted to do something big. Primerica gave me – and anyone who wants it – the same chance to be somebody regardless of your background or experience. We wake up every morning with a passion and purpose!”1
As a second generation Primerican, Brandon benefitted tremendously from growing up watching his parents build their Primerica business. “I was an introverted child, so the exposure helped me develop the communication skills I needed to flourish,” he explains. “The biggest benefit, though, was learning that no matter how tough my Primerica journey could be, I knew it’d pay off if I consistently did my part. If you focus on your daily growth, your time will come. Seeing my parents navigate through the highs and lows showed me that the system does work if you work.”
His parents, Rodney and Natasha, not only played a major role in their son’s success, but they also gave him the freedom to choose his own path. “They’re undoubtedly my mentors and I’ve learned so much from them! My mom is the biggest reason for my success. She instilled toughness, but also humility in me. When I turned 18, my dad actually signed me up with Primerica as my birthday gift. I joke about how he recruited me for his own benefit, but it’s definitely become the greatest birthday gift.”
That gift became invaluable when the business management major and finance minor left college about a year later out of necessity. “I was working in retail, warehouses and other jobs but still struggling financially,” he says. “I realized formal education wouldn’t get me where I wanted to be because those jobs are not designed to help people become financially independent.2 That’s when I started to see Primerica as an option, and I got my license six months after joining.3,4 I wanted to be in a position to control my time and money.”
After graduating high school, Marisha got licensed and immediately teamed up with Brandon to grow their business together. Both are grateful for each other’s continual support. “Without Marisha, Primerica would be very tough,” says Brandon. “She has been the best business partner and wife I could ask for.”
She adds, “It’s amazing to be able to work with your best friend every day. There’s something very special about two like-minded individuals having the same vision and going after the same goals. Nothing can stop a focused and goal driven partnership!”5
It took time for the duo to develop steady success, but they never lost sight of the bigger picture. “The main challenge was building up my self-confidence and belief that we can do this but once that happened, we started getting recognized for our efforts,” Brandon shares. “We view every small achievement as a major long-term win for our career. Moreover, there’s no better feeling than being able to serve others and help create financial peace in households. Thanks to Primerica, we’ve been able to help our community in many ways including feeding the homeless and helping kids during the holidays. We’re big believers of ‘once blessed, become a blesser’ and we strive to share that mindset with everyone.”
In 2020, the young couple’s faith in Primerica was put to the ultimate test when Brandon’s mother, Natasha, passed away from Stage 4 cancer. To see how his parents’ life insurance coverage protected them reinforced the priceless value Primerica provides to people. “My mom’s passing gave me a deeper love for Primerica, the environment and how this business can truly change your life. I also think that being in Primerica taught her how to maintain a positive outlook on everything. The doctors initially gave her six months to live but she beat cancer for more than five years before going home! Her fighting spirit continues to live on in me today. She’s part of our legacy and will always be my hero.”
Brandon and Marisha’s hard work has allowed them to create the life they want for their family. They hope to pass on the legacy to their three kids one day. “We joke about which one will expand the business the most, but we see them all working together to carry the Reed legacy to limitless levels. We truly do our work for our last name, not our first.”
They conclude, “To this day, Primerica remains focused on doing what’s right. Whatever obstacles we encounter, knowing that we’re impacting present and future generations encourages us to keep pushing forward. Success is very personal for us. Significance is what we’re after because it’s about the lives we’ve changed outside of our own.”
