Building to Last
Josh & Patty Sandigo
San Antonio, TX
Former Occupation: Church Administrator
Growing up in Phoenix, AZ, in the 1990s, Josh Sandigo watched his dad work as a forklift driver and a dispatcher to support his family. “Dad worked really hard,” remembers josh. “He left early in the morning and came home late at night. We were definitely blue collar at that time. But then, when I was about 14, dad got into real estate investing with one of his brothers — and he was pretty good at it.”

SEARCHING FOR AN ANSWER
“Over a pretty short period of time, we experienced a change in our lifestyle,” Josh recalls. “We got a nicer car and a better house in a more desirable neighborhood. We started traveling a lot more. When I saw that change in how we lived, that just really opened me up to entrepreneurship. I wanted to be able to make money, but I also wanted freedom. I just didn’t know what that was going to be.”
Josh went off to college with that question in mind. After college, Josh continued working with his dad, but now at the church his parents had recently started. He tried his hand in various other opportunities, but nothing stuck. “I had helped my dad at the church as well as with his properties, and I knew I didn’t want to get into property development and management,” he recalls. “Plus, you need money to get started in real estate investing and I didn’t have anything like that kind of money. But then I met Primerica Representatives Alex and Sandra Santana at a Christmas party. We briefly talked and became friends on social media, but didn’t really chat too much afterward.”

FINDING THE ANSWER
It wasn’t until almost four months later that Alex reached out to Josh asking him if he could help with referrals for his financial services business, since he had recently relocated from California. The two met up at a coffee shop to catch up and discuss the business Alex was in — which turned out to be Primerica. As they talked, Josh wondered to himself, “How did I get a college degree and not know the first thing about money? Here I was 29 years old with a wife and a new baby, and I didn’t have any life insurance. I didn’t know how IRAs worked. I didn’t appreciate the miracle of compound interest. How did I get this far in life and not know basic financial principles?

“And then Alex said something that really got to me. ‘Josh, what I am hearing from you is that you have learned how to make money, you just don’t know how to keep it.’ That scared me because I didn’t want to go another ten years of my life like that. Just making enough to pay bills and live a somewhat decent lifestyle but never having anything substantial enough to position myself for something better.
“Not only that, but this was the first time I had met someone who apparently made a good living and was actually not only willing to tell me how they did it but even offered to teach me how to do the same thing!” That day at the coffee shop, Josh was impressed by Alex’s credibility, and he joined Primerica that afternoon. “I had faith in Alex. I really didn’t know anything about Primerica at that time, but I did know that being successful at this business was learning what Alex knew — learning to present the concepts and ideas the way he did for me and educating others the way he educated me. If I did that, I could be successful just like him.”1, 2, 3

JOINING FORCES
Josh went home to tell his wife, Patty, the news. “I was not initially very interested,” smiles Patty. “But I wanted to be a supportive spouse, and I didn’t want to rain on Josh’s parade. I agreed to attend Primerica meetings with him and accompany him on his appointments. It only took a few weeks before I decided I wanted to get involved as well. Josh was so excited about what he was doing that it was infectious. I thought, if Josh is going to do this, then we’re going to do this together!” Soon, Josh and Patty opened their own Primerica office. “Our Partnership had gone from Patty’s disinterest, and maybe even doubt, to total buy-in,” says Josh. “What we’ve built since that day I met with Alex, we’ve built together.”4

For eight years, Josh and Patty ran their Primerica organization out of their Phoenix, AZ, office, but in 2021 they relocated to San Antonio, TX, and opened an office there. “It was a big change for us. We didn’t know many people in San Antonio, but we started building from scratch and things have really taken off. It’s been hard work, but Patty and I had done it all before so we knew we could do it again.”
The Sandigos sum up their Primerica philosophy this way: “We believe the Primerica Opportunity has two parts. There’s the ‘Buy Term and Invest the Difference’ part and then there’s the opportunity to build a rewarding business. The second part of the opportunity has always been great, but we believe it is better now than it ever has been. The thing that we really enjoy about this business is seeing people grow and develop and become better versions of themselves. We love having a positive impact on people and helping them transform their lives.”5
