Coming Full Circle

Dallon & Amy Martin
Lethbridge, AB
Former Occupation: Student/Sales Representative

Children who grow up in entrepreneurial families are often afforded the unique opportunity to be raised in an environment where hard work is praised and the future is bright. This was the experience of Dallon Martin, of Lethbridge, AB — a second generation Primerican.1, 2

His parents are Primerica Representatives Gary and Marie Martin, veteran leaders with over 30 years of experience in the business. Dallon says he was exposed early on to the advantage of being an entrepreneur’s son. “My dad involved all of us kids in the business,” he recalls. “We would always participate in these big barbecues, and I saw the Primerica folks, and I definitely wanted to be a part of that.”

Every week, Dallon and his brothers were tasked with cleaning their father’s office, a weekly chore that made a lasting impression on him. “We cleaned his office every Saturday since I was seven. We were always around the office, and I remember the posters on the bulletin boards, the recognition of success, and the whole culture of Primerica.”

Now a successful Primerica business owner in his own right, Dallon credits his parents and Primerica’s winning atmosphere that promotes “pushing up people” for his perception of the world and what he could accomplish.

TRYING OUT THE WORKING WORLD
Before deciding to go into business for himself, Dallon went to university on a basketball scholarship, earning a degree in finance and business management. He married his college sweetheart, Amy, in 2012. While he believed he would eventually work with Primerica like his father, Dallon tried his hand at different jobs before choosing to build a business for himself.

He landed a well-paying job in door-to-door home alarm system sales to provide for their growing family. Although Dallon found success and earned a generous income, something was lacking. “I started to see that the working world wasn’t the same world that I saw in Primerica,” he remembers. “I had always seen my dad and what he had done, and I’ve always loved the life Primerica can provide”

After some thought, the Martins chose to make the leap toward starting their own Primerica business. Dallon earned his life and securities licenses, and quickly got to work, putting in the time and effort to build a business with Primerica.3, 4, 5

HARD WORK PAYS OFF
Early on, the family had to make some sacrifices. For Amy, who focused on running the household to support their young family, letting go of the mindset she adopted growing up to embrace an entrepreneurial spirit was a process. “At first it was really hard,” confides Amy. “Dallon was gone a lot, and he worked around the clock, but now I’m super grateful. We had faith because we’ve seen how this Company changes lives. Now, instead of working for someone else, we get to put our family first and teach others to do the same.6 Our Primerica business allows us to pour our hope into others. It’s a very positive and growth-centered environment, and these concepts can be applied anywhere in life.”

LIVING LIFE ON THEIR TERMS
Just three years after Dallon signed his Primerica Independent Business Application, the Martins opened their own office.7 Now, a little more than a decade has passed since they made the leap with Primerica, and the fruits of their labor are paying off in big ways.

Today, their Primerica business provides them with the financial security to handle life’s emergencies while granting them the flexibility to prioritize family, travel, and simply enjoy life on their own terms. “We’re able to do what we want when we want to,” says Dallon. “I had that freedom through my parents, so I wanted to see that in my own family’s life.”

The Martins also get to instill their shared values and financial know-how onto their three children, ages 10, 8 and 4. “We pass on little principles that help the kids think about the future,” says Dallon. “Before they spend their money, we ask them, ‘Do you want it, do you need it, or do you just feel that you have to have it?’ Just trying to get them to think about it. Watching them grow up in an environment where they get to learn responsibility and money management is so worth it.”
