Fashioning a Brighter Future
March 2007 marked a turning point for Princess & George Mitchell of Sacramento, CA. Back then, the young couple was engaged, with a six-month-old son affectionately known as “Little George.” “I was unexpectedly laid off from a fashion retail job where I was a full-time manager, stylist and buyer,” Princess explains. “I poured so much time and energy into building the brand up from nothing but then the owner decided to relocate the business to Los Angeles. In hindsight, I’m grateful for how everything worked out because we wouldn’t be where we are now.”

Princess was also working on her MBA when she received the disappointing news. But the timing of the job loss became a blessing in disguise as she heard about Primerica two weeks later. “I had a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing, but that situation made me realize I wanted a career where I could control my own schedule, earn good money and help people,” she says. “Primerica offered all of that and I’m especially grateful for George’s support. He already had two jobs when he also decided to join Primerica, which gave me the flexibility to be part-time for the first four years and focus on raising our son until he entered kindergarten.”1,2

Driven to Succeed
A career in fashion may have been what Princess initially wanted but the skills she gained in that field, combined with her work ethic transitioned well into financial services. “I’m used to being a leader and winning,” she adds. “But Primerica taught me how to win on a different level. It’s ultimately about the team and our success is a result of helping others reach their goals. I learned how to move from success to significance through this business.”

The Mitchells’ journey to significance started when the two met as undergraduate students at Alabama A&M University. Princess, who grew up in Sacramento, recalls how life was different in the South compared to the Golden State. “It was an adjustment at first,” she shares. “But George grew up in the Atlanta area and I remember being charmed by his Southern accent when I first met him! We relocated back to my hometown after graduation, got married in June 2007 and have been best friends for 20+ years.”

The Power of Two
The married couple credits their strong Partnership as a key reason behind their success in business and in life. “Primerica has undoubtedly strengthened our relationship as spouses, parents and people,” Princess says. “In the corporate world, you’re discouraged from working with your husband or wife but it’s the opposite here. I often say I build the business, but he moves it, and you need both.” George adds, “To be able to establish a family legacy by building a company-within-a-company together is tremendous and extremely rare.”

Their inseparable bond propelled them to new heights once George joined Primerica full-time. “Every morning is a blessing because we’re on a mission to serve our team and community,” they say. “We firmly believe the people God places in our path are the ones we’re supposed to help. We have great faith in ourselves, our team and the Company to deliver every time, which is why we want to represent in the best possible way.”

A Family Affair
After more than 17 years in the business, both maintain the same level of enthusiasm for what they do. Every obstacle they faced along the way became an opportunity to persevere and motivate. “So many people come to us in a very broken state,” says George. “What we show them is not only how to transact but transform their lives financially. Because we chose not to quit, we’re seeing the fruit of our perseverance up close through the successes of clients and teammates.”3

Princess and George’s three young kids have also expressed interest in Primerica although there’s no pressure to join the family business. “Little George is now 17 years old, and he already wants to work with us,” Princess laughs. “Our 10-year-old daughter, Savannah, is eager to build her own Primerica team one day, and Jaxson, who is six, wants to play his part, too. However, my mother, Patricia Aldridge, is the real MVP of our business. When I retired her from her state job in 2017, the initial plan was to help us with the kids as we built the business, but she went beyond that. She became fully licensed while being a full-time grandma! This year, she’ll be 60 and she wants to help part-time in the office.”

They conclude, “It’s a powerful statement when three generations of a family want to be involved in the same business. Primerica has changed our lives in every way possible. This is a very exciting time to be part of the Company and to see what the future holds. We are ready to take it to the next level and help lead the charge!”
