Mother-Son Duo Delivers
Macyury & Luis Rodriguez
Miami, FL
Former Occupation: Cashier

A Mother’s Sacrifice
Eight years ago, Macyury Rodriguez of Miami, FL, was living in Venezuela with her son, Luis, and daughter, Yurianna. She was content with her job and deeply committed to a 15-year relationship. While she was happy with her own life, Macyury was concerned about what opportunities would await her children after they finished school. Would they work in restaurants as she had done? Was that going to be “enough” for their goals and dreams?
“I decided to immigrate to the United States so that my children would have more opportunities,” she explains. “My boyfriend didn’t want to leave Venezuela, so I made the choice to prioritize my children’s future over my own.” Macyury arrived in Florida with two high school-aged children. Luis couldn’t understand why his mother was forcing him into a new country, new language, and new lifestyle. “It was a challenge,” he remembers. “I had two years left of high school and didn’t speak any English. I couldn’t look ahead to the future and connect the dots as to how these giant life changes were going to improve our lives.”

A Family Opportunity
A few months before Luis graduated, Macyury, a former salesperson and hospitality employee, was introduced to Primerica, and she became both a client and a Representative. “I saw Primerica as a way to earn extra income and become more professional as a mother and a woman in business,” she recalls. “I could see opportunities for myself and my children.”1
Luis joined his mother in her Primerica business at 18 years old, right after he graduated from high school. “My mother had emerged as a leader,” Luis says with pride. “I saw all the sacrifices she made and her work ethic, and I wanted to follow in her footsteps with Primerica.” Luis explains that Primerica was like attending a university for him. “I learned financial concepts, developed a growth mindset and adopted an unwavering positive attitude.”
Today at age 24, Luis carries himself with the confidence and wisdom of someone decades beyond his years. He says his English is now excellent, and he has become a master at achieving his goals and dreams.

A Mission to Help Others
Both Macyury and Luis know the power of the financial concepts they teach, the products and services they offer, and the business-building opportunities available with Primerica. “We approach everyone around us,” smiles Luis. “We have information people truly need and not sharing that information with them feels like withholding a cure.”
Luis says he takes the “fight” personally. “When someone isn’t interested, I take it personally,” he explains. “If I sell a product, I make a commission for that day, but life insurance and investments could benefit these families over their lifetime. Their finances are in my hands – I must do a great job for them! And I never feel bad following up because I understand the high value of what’s at stake and what we have to offer.” 2,3
In August of 2022, Macyury and Luis delivered a life insurance check to a grieving family, and that’s when they truly understood the difference they could make in people’s lives. He explains, “We worked with a husband and wife who were immigrants like us. They had an adult daughter with disabilities. When the husband died unexpectedly, the wife was able to continue to stay at home and care for their daughter. What we do matters!”

A Mutual Appreciation
Macyury says the best part about working with her son is that she has a front row seat to his success. Plus, she can continue to be a part of his personal growth and overall wellbeing. “We work so closely together,” she shares, “We both work equally, and we’re true partners in business.”
Luis shares, “The best part about working with my mother is that she always does what she says she’s going to do. She is a business leader I want to follow. She’s not just my mom anymore; she’s my coach and my Partner.”

A Glimpse at the Future
Yurianna now works with her mother and brother in the business as well. She also is the mother of 11-year-old Camilo, who she says wants to be just like his Uncle Luis. “My favorite role I get to play is as a role model to my beloved nephew,” Luis says proudly. “Camilo says he wants to be like me someday, and he’s growing up in such a great environment and with a growth mindset. His future is bright!”
