A Business Bound By Love
Gery & Rebecca Bittner
Pickering, ON
Former Occupation: Construction Worker
Before Primerica, Gery Bittner, of Pickering, ON, worked for his older brother at his construction company. “I loved my brother, but I hated my job,” Gery laughs. “This made going full-time at Primerica an easy decision at the time.1 One thing I’ve learned over the years is the first step toward overcoming your obstacles is diving in headfirst. Everybody has to start somewhere.”
With his sights set on starting his new business, Gery quickly went to work. For the next 14 years, he learned about what it took to build a Primerica business, built his team and focused on making a difference — one Kitchen Table appointment at a time. In 2004, Gery was introduced to Rebecca, a fellow Primerica colleague who shared his passion for helping the community. Their love quickly blossomed as they realized how much they had in common. Four years later, Rebecca and Gery tied the knot and made the commitment to do life – and business – together. “We look at life as if we’re sitting together in a boat,” says Rebecca. “We’re a true Partnership, rowing together toward the finish line.2 By combining forces and building our foundation upon true love, we’ve become stronger than ever.”
Today, the Bittners say their Primerica business is truly making a difference and changing lives in their community. “Often, potential clients might shy away from seeking financial advice because they may not have a lot of savings,” says Gery. “These people have been overlooked for many years. But that’s where we come into play. We show them a simple road map to follow that covers all of the important aspects of personal finance. Then, we offer them an incredible part-time or full-time business opportunity.3 This can be life-changing for someone such as myself, who didn’t receive any higher education!”
Gery continues, “Primerica gives people who may be considered ‘average’ or ‘ordinary’ a chance to win at life. It gives people the opportunity to help families that they can relate to, while building their own business. That’s certainly what happened for me and Rebecca. Because of Primerica, we’re able to build this life for ourselves. Today, we have a 9-year-old who plays hockey and, thanks to the flexibility of our schedule, we’re able to attend his sporting events and show up for our son. That’s what Primerica provides – the chance to show up for your family.”
Looking back, the Bittners believe all of their hard work has paid off. “There are so many different gratifying aspects of this business,” Gery reflects. “It’s hard to pinpoint just one of the many ways our business rewards us. Obviously, becoming what we would personally consider successful is satisfying. But becoming deeply involved in the lives of others, then turning around to help them do the same is even more rewarding than anything we could’ve ever imagined.”
1. In Canada, the part-time opportunity may be subject to certain restrictions, depending on your occupation. 2. The Partnership Empowerment Program (PEP) is a recognition program for supportive partnering among sales representatives. It does not signify a business or legal partnership. PEP cannot affect, combine or alter contractual compensation, hierarchical agreements or Ownership issues. 3. Primerica offers a business opportunity that involves the sale of term life insurance and various other financial service products. Primerica representatives are independent contractors, not employees. Their earnings are based on the sale of products offered by Primerica and also qualifying product referrals. Importantly, Primerica representatives must be appropriately licensed for each product line before they are qualified to make a sale.
