From Intention to Impact

Where there is intention, there is potential for enormous impact. Such is the experience of Raul & Noemi Avila, of Palm Desert, CA, who are building the life of their dreams simply by following a process that aligns with their personal goals of helping others.

Recognizing an Opportunity
When Raul Avila first learned about Primerica’s How Money Works™ financial education guide, the high school math teacher jumped at the opportunity to use the tried and true financial literacy concepts with his high school students in Southern California.1

Knowing first-hand what limited personal finance instruction his students were getting in school, Raul viewed the free materials Primerica offered as the perfect way he could help the young people he knew get ahead in life.

“I wanted to teach my students something practical, something they can use the rest of their lives,” says Raul, who couldn’t rationalize only teaching his students about Pi, quadratic equations, and abstract theorems – concepts he believed the majority of his students would never use in real life. “Money is something we use every day but it’s still not taught in school. I wanted to teach my students something practical, something they can use the rest of their lives.”

What he didn’t expect was the mind-blowing way Primerica would change his future and open doors. After accepting an invitation to a business overview meeting, Raul was intrigued. He began working with Primerica in his spare time, and after nine months he left his teaching career to build his business full time – but he kept his relationship with his students.2,3

“Unfortunately, teachers don’t make a lot of money,” laughs Raul. “And I knew that if I dedicated myself to my Primerica business and doing what my Primerica coaches told me to do, I could rise to their level. I thought, if they can do it so can I. And that has served me well. Today, we have achieved so much, and I know better things are yet to come.”

Then Comes Marriage
Raul was focused on growing his Primerica business when he met Noemi, a driven go-getter who joined the business part time for extra income to pay off credit card debt. It was love at first sight for both – their shared interest in owning a business and leading people to achieve their dreams united them. The two soon married and poured their passion into building a business together.

“The ability to make extra income is what attracted me to Primerica at first,” says Noemi. “But that’s not why I stayed. The opportunity was too great, and for the first time in my life, I felt myself fulfilling some of my potential that I couldn’t at my bank teller job. I was able to pay off all my debt two months after I got licensed and then I decided to go full time.”

Leveling Up in Family and in Business
The couple welcomed their first daughter within their first year of building a business together – an event that brought with it immense responsibility, joy, and commitment.

“Starting a family helped bring our business into its next level,” Noemi recalls. “We loved the freedom side of the business, and the ability to create generational wealth for our children and grandchildren has really energized us. We’re able to achieve what we are achieving by entrusting the system and staying committed to our goals. The fact that we can pass what we are creating onto our children is incredible. It gives me a peace of mind knowing that one day my daughters could inherit the business, and this is an equal opportunity for everyone.”

Helping People Help Themselves
In addition to generously providing for their three daughters Ruby, Marina, and Esmerelda, the Avilas get to be the go-to people for their extended family members, serving as leaders in multiple ministries, and acting as directors at their local church, where they help countless families. Raul goes back and connects with his former students, too.

When they reflect on the hard work their business has required of them, Noemi is quick to recognize the payoff and profound impact they have been able to make within their community over the past 20 years.

“We’ve stood for hundreds of clients as they’ve dealt with losing loved ones, and helped hundreds more with investments and college funds,” Noemi shares. “Whatever we went through totally was worth it. The freedom to raise our children, to be the caregivers, and to be the go-to people for our families, it’s worth it all.”4,5
