A Passion for Teaching
Josh & Shawna Johner, of Colorado Springs, CO, have always had a desire to help others. “Before Primerica, I was an elementary school teacher and Shawna was a speech language pathologist,” Josh shares. “We joined Primerica to create a better quality of life for ourselves and those we love.”
He continues, “After my brother introduced me to the business, I quickly became passionate about the financial concepts Primerica taught and the dream of freedom and entrepreneurship. Initially, I wanted to make an extra $1,000-$1,500 a month to supplement my teaching income and learn about money. Even with all our education, nobody ever taught us the financial concepts needed to reach our goals.”1, 2
The Johners always had a strong work ethic and a desire to make a difference by helping people. “We were missing the ability to create financial independence,” Josh says. “During my Primerica field training, I remember meeting with a few of my teacher friends and was blown away by how big of an impact we were able to make on their finances. After only a few months, I realized I enjoyed Primerica just as much as teaching. I loved educating families on how to become financially healthy, working with my wife and building a team.”
After working part-time with Primerica for six months, Josh retired from teaching at the end of the school year and made a full-time career change.3 “I knew this was the vehicle that I could use to continue to educate and empower families, while also creating a legacy of freedom for my family,” he says.
“The part of Primerica we love the most is the freedom of time to spend together as a family and build financial independence,” Josh adds. “Primerica has allowed us to homeschool our three daughters, Jayden, Alexis, and Kaia, impact our community in a positive way, and own our own business.4 We truly feel like we are living a life of purpose for our family and for the families we serve.”
