Building a Family Legacy Through Helping Others

Fanie Bélanger & Sebastien Auger Blainville, QC
Former Occupation: Naturopath/Advertising

“Primerica gave us the tools to change our lives for the better,” say Fanie Bélanger & Sebastien Auger of Blainville, QC. “We learned the great HOW MONEY WORKS™ financial concepts like the Rule of 72, paying yourself first, debt stacking, and so much more. Having that knowledge and acting on it really helped us to transform our lives. I made the common money mistakes that a lot of people make,” remembers Fanie. “I bought a car that was too expensive, stuff like that. But also, as a newly single mother, my children came first. I had been a former bartender, a former band lead singer, and now a naturopath who was ‘all grown up’ with two little people depending on me. What was I going to do?”

“I had, personally, never made very much money and now there was just too much month at the end of the money, and I continued to build up the debt. That is the most miserable feeling in the world. I couldn’t sleep at night. I couldn’t concentrate during the day because I was physically and mentally exhausted. That’s why today, when Sebastien and I have clients who find themselves in what seems like hopeless debt, I can sympathize, and I know we can help them get the knowledge and tools to get out of that debt.”

A little more than four years after becoming a Primerica client, Fanie decided to sign an Independent Business Application (IBA) and start her own Primerica business.1 In fact, it was Sebastien who, when they met, convinced her that she could be a success at Primerica. “When I first started,” remembers Fanie, “I had my hands full. I was raising my children and still managing to build my Primerica business as well. I wanted to do it myself. That’s the beauty of Primerica. You make your own schedule. You are not answering to a boss. You are answering to yourself. I am a woman of action, and I took action. People were surprised at what I managed to get done. I even took my baby boy with me when I met with families to discuss the solutions Primerica could offer them.”

Fanie says she has always been very interested in self-improvement. She had read books on the subject and attended lots of seminars. “I wanted to be a stronger, more focused person,” smiles Fanie. “I wanted to know how to step out of my comfort zone and grow as a human being. I know that helped me in my Primerica business.”

After some years, both Sebastien and Fanie had each built up their own, separate Primerica businesses, the two decided to team up to combine their business efforts.

“Sebastien and I knew we were in the right place and we intended to continue putting our best efforts into building our team and helping families,” says Fanie. “We both knew what we wanted and where we wanted to go with our business. It’s still that way. We’re both action-oriented, results-focused kind of people – each bringing our strengths to the business. On top of that we believe in pouring ourselves into our team. If I don’t feel like I’ve helped at least one person move ahead toward where they want to be, I just can’t sleep at night.

“A large part of my philosophy in Primerica is fostering women’s entrepreneurship. Primerica is, in my opinion, a great place for women. In fact, today women make up more than half of all Primerica Representatives. Your success here is up to you and what you do with the Primerica Opportunity. We have a lot of great women leaders who are ready to give of their time and knowledge. I like to do the same now, to give back for all the support I received when I was starting out.”

Fanie and Sebastien say their passion for Primerica is driven by what they call their “Why.” “We always say your ‘Why’ is important. Why are we working hard at growing our Primerica business? It’s a business that we love – but our ‘Why,’ well, really, we have two ‘Whys’– our family and our team, because they are our family, too. But, as far as the children go, because of our Primerica business, we can now raise our children without the financial stress that both of us grew up with. They are growing up seeing the both of us build a business that we now own, and it will become our legacy to them.2 Because of this, they know they have options in life, and they know they truly are our ‘Why.’”
