Primerica leader, Asaad Faraj, of Southfield, MI, caught the “charity bug” early on in his career as a business-builder.* He joined Primerica in 1991 and by 2006, Asaad and his wife, Lois, had built a very successful Primerica business and had developed the habit of using a portion of their income to support the ministries and charities close to their heart. Then, Asaad got an invitation he couldn’t refuse.


“About 10 years ago, my pastor’s son invited me to join him on a missions trip to the Dominican Republic,” Asaad says. “I wanted to say ‘no’ because I didn’t feel like the timing was right, but instead, I found myself saying ‘yes.’ What I saw during that trip changed my life. These people had nothing – they didn’t even have regular access to food – yet 20,000 of them came to this dusty field to hear the ministers speak. I remember looking out at them and seeing so much joy.”





Making an Impact
Since that first venture, Asaad has been on a total of 32 missions trips to places around the world and his wife, Lois, and their three children have joined him for many. “Every time we come back from one of these trips, we are even more committed than ever to growing our business so we can help more people,” Asaad says. “On one of our trips to India, we were giving these toys and backpacks to some kids. These are children who are so poor that they’ve never seen a toy before. In fact, they had never even seen a bed before. It was so heartbreaking to see how hesitant they were to pick the toys up, like they expected someone to smack their hand away. We came home from that trip with a much clearer goal of growing our business like never before.”




Travel with Purpose
Over the last decade, Asaad and Lois say they’ve gone to Haiti four times and India four times, as well as to locations in South and Central America. “We’ve seen the poorest of the poor, yet we’ve also seen the results of our impact on them,” says Asaad. “Our success with our Primerica business has allowed us to travel with purpose, to afford to be a blessing to people who truly have nothing, and to share the love of God with families around the world. To us, what we get to do with our income is worth everything it takes to build our business.”

The drive to compete is strong in Primerica’s Chief Marketing Officer Duane Morrow. The Hoschton, GA, resident just completed his tenth Peachtree Road Race on July 4 in the wheelchair division — an annual cross training event he uses to prepare himself for wheelchair rugby, which he calls his “real passion.”


Always an avid sportsman, Morrow, 48, was critically injured in 2004 while playing rugby in Europe and was paralyzed from the chest down. Twelve years later, he has transitioned to “the new cool normal,” he says, continuing to participate in competitive sports year round. “I’ve always been a driven person,” says Morrow. “I want to beat you at breathing.”


A recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution article that features Morrow talks about how he — and other wheelchair racers — continue to show up year after year for the celebrated 10K in midtown Atlanta.

Having the financial freedom to do special things for her family members is what makes it all worthwhile for Joyclen Prevost, of Gretna, LA. She started her business with Primerica 20 years ago when her two children were six and eight years old. Now she’s a grandmother, and her hard work has paid off.1,2 This past Easter was an example. She was able to fulfill her granddaughter’s dream to meet First Lady Michelle Obama.

Six months prior to that, when Joyclen’s five-year-old granddaughter, Kennedy, told her “Meme” she wanted to meet Michelle Obama, Joyclen promised her she would make it happen. “She came into my office one day, and when she saw a picture of the First Family, she said, ‘meme, do you know them?” Joyclen recalls her granddaughter excitedly saying, “I love Michelle Obama. I want to meet her.” When Joyclen asked Kennedy why, Kennedy said she loves the First Lady because of her garden, and Kennedy loves gardening. And just like that, Joyclen promised to take her granddaughter to meet Michelle Obama.

The 2016 Easter Egg Roll at the White House proved to be an opportunity where Joyclen’s family could meet the First Family. Within six months, Joyclen secured tickets for the event for herself, Kennedy, and Joyclen’s daughter, Keondra, 26. Getting to Washington, D.C., from Louisiana was the challenge. Although Joyclen had purchased plane tickets, when they arrived at the airport on the morning of Easter Sunday, they learned their flight was cancelled.

“It was the busiest day to travel and it was a holiday,” Joyclen says. “There were no other flights. And people were going berserk.” The airline offered to either put all the ticket holders up in a hotel, send them to dinner, and fly them out in the morning, or to refund their money for the tickets. Joyclen says she opted for her money back. “I then purchased tickets from another airline in order to fly out that same morning,” says Joyclen. The cost of the new tickets? Almost three times what she originally paid, but Joyclen didn’t have to worry about that. Thanks to the financial security she built through Primerica, she was able to navigate through a potential stressful situation. “I didn’t even bat an eyelash,” says Joyclen.


Joyclen and her family got to Washington, D.C., in time for the event and had an amazing time, she says, especially when the President came out of the White House and addressed the crowd.

“It was amazing that he was even in town,” says Joyclen. “He was in town and was able to address the crowd. And afterward, he read a book.” The highlight of the trip, however, was when Joyclen’s granddaughter was able to hug Michelle Obama. She even got to see her garden! “Kennedy told me that when she hugged her, she said ‘Yes!’, and Michelle Obama also said, ‘Yes!’” says Joyclen. Mission accomplished.

For Joyclen, she is grateful to Primerica for giving her the ability to respond to the situation at the airport. “That could have been a totally different story had I not been able to pay for those tickets,” she says. “At that moment it was all worth it. It’s amazing what you can do when you set your sights on something.”
